Joost van der Westhuizen passes away

South African World Cup Winner dies at the age of 45.

Former South African scrum half, Joost van der Westhuizen, has died after a 5 year battle with Motor Neuron Disease.

The springbok legend represented his country 89 times between 1993 and 2003, scoring 38 tries and being part of the 1995 world cup winning side.

Joost was diagnosed with MND in 2011.

He started the J9 foundation and up until is death van der Westhuizen looked to raise money for research into MND.

On the 4th of February 2017, Joost was taken to hospital and it was said he was in a critical condition and news broke in the early afternoon (GMT, 6th of February) that he had passed away.

He was and still is a man I hold in a very high regard for his playing ability as an international rugby payer but more importantly as a human being in the last few years of his life.
