“Stirling’s Big Wednesday” Review

Andrew Baxter takes a look back at an exciting day for Stirling’s sporting sides.

This Wednesday was a busy one for Stirling sport, with “Stirling’s Big Wednesday” producing some fantastic sporting action.

The highlight of the day was the men’s football second team winning their league title- despite losing their match. A 3-0 defeat to Abertay looked like it had denied Stirling the chance to wrap up the league, but news of second-placed Edinburgh’s failure to win sparked wild celebrations.

Speaking to Air3 Sport, captain Harry Lindsay said the league title “was what we deserved… It’s an amazing feeling.”

“One of our boys found out that we’d won the league on Twitter, and we all went a bit mad really.”

There were also big wins for the men’s fourth side- who won 12-1 at home to Edinburgh Napier and the ladies’ 1sts football team who beat top-of-the-table Edinburgh 3-1.

Women’s rugby took a huge step towards securing the Scottish 1A title with a 20-10 win over Glasgow. Despite a last minute change of venue and the loss of a number of key players, Stirling held on for a valuable win.

There was a cracker of a game in the Gannochy Sports Hall late on Wednesday evening, as Stirling’s men’s basketball side narrowly lost out against Edinburgh Napier. It was a back-and-forth affair, but Napier took the points with a 78-76 win.

Away from the home action, and Stirling’s swimming team won 145-103 in Aberdeen. The result means that they are now undefeated in 2 years.
